The fantasy-drama series came back with its third season. It is based on a similarly named novel of the “All Soul” written by bestselling fantasy and historical fiction writer Deborah Harkness. The show initially premiered on September 14, 2018.
A Discovery of Witches is set in a period era of the fantastical world. A historian Diana Bishop finds a bewitched manuscript in the Bodleian Library. As she attempts to unravel the secrets this book holds about magical creatures, she is forced back into the world of magic, full of vampires, demons, witches and forbidden love. She forms an unlikely alliance, geneticist and vampire Matthew Clairmont, who helps her attempt to protect the book and solve the riddles while dodging threats from the magical creature world.
In season 3, the synopsis suggests, “Matthew and Diana return from their trip to 1590 to find tragedy at Sept-tours; they must find the missing pages from the Book of Life and The Book itself before it’s too late. Their enemies are gearing up against them, and a monster from Matthew’s past who has been lying in wait will return for revenge.
The cast ensemble has Teresa Palmer, Matthew Goode, Edward Bluemel, Aiysha Hart, Alex Kingston, Adelle Leonce, Steven Cree, Peter McDonald, Olivier Huband, Toby Regbo, Parker Sawyers, Ivanno Jeremiah, and Genesis Lynea.
Critics have been exceedingly optimistic about the series. They have praised the visual effects and the performances of the actors. It portrays the dynamics of the story very subtly without being too ferocious with the impact. And the actors kept it very natural with their acting skills. It seems like they are the actual personalities as their characters.
The final season of the series has & an episode with a run-time of 45-58 minutes. The show also won a Golden Globe for Best TV Series and a People’s Choice Award for Favourite Fantasy Show.
