Morbius is a 2022 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Morbius, the Living Vampire, produced by Columbia Pictures in association with Marvel. Distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing, it is the third film in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU).

The film, directed by Daniel Espinosa and written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, stars Jared Leto as Dr. Michael Morbius, alongside Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson. Morbius becomes a living vampire after remedying a rare disease in the film.

Plain and simple, “Morbius” is not good, and it is one of the worst comic book films released in recent years.

The entire plot of “Morbius” can be described as the plot of 2018’s “Venom.” It’s not even subtle about it. The story is the same, from the action to the story beats.

The main difference between “Venom” and “Morbius” is the lead performance, and Jared Leto has far less charisma than Tom Hardy, which shows in this film. While “Venom” is carried mainly by Hardy’s lovably unkempt Eddie Brock, Leto’s Dr. Michael Morbius is difficult to root for, which is problematic for a film centered around his character’s supposed greater morality.

The only helpful thing about “Morbius” is that the title card looks pretty cool, but that is before the film even starts.

Eventually, this film is one of the terrible comic book films of recent memory and is truly a disaster for Sony’s Spider-Man-adjacent universe.
