According to the reports, Four coaches of the Visakhapatnam-Palasa passenger train derailed off the tracks, their fate collided with the Visakhapatnam-Rayagada passenger train.
According to the reports from the local media this shattering and devastating accident happened around 7 p.m. on Sunday evening. The reports further claimed that the disaster struck in the Vizianagaram-Kothavalasa Railway Section of the Waltair Division within the East Coast Railway Zone. This heartbreaking tragedy occurred when the Visakhapatnam-Rayagada passenger train ignored a crucial signal and collided with the stationary Visakhapatnam-Palasa passenger train from behind.
The impact of the collision was massively devastating, with two of the derailed coaches colliding into an adjacent goods train, leaving behind a grim scene of twisted metal and wreckage. Reports from the local media outlets further claimed that the injured people were promptly rushed to hospitals in Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam, although their fate was uncertain, and rescue efforts were still underway at the accident site, holding an anticipation of a rising death toll.

In between of the darkness that shrouded the accident site, local police and district officials immediately launched a rescue and relief mission. Reports have claimed that the Ambulances struggled to reach the scene, forcing rescue workers to carry the injured to them on stretchers and, it caused a harrowing struggle for the paramedics and other rescue workers
Vizianagaram district Collector Nagalakshmi released official data which stated that 32 injured individuals had been admitted to the Government General Hospital in Vizianagaram, while the State minister Botsa Satyanarayana, Collector Nagalakshmi, and SP Deepika Patil thoroughly and dedicatedly serve the rescue operations, their heavy hearts were with the gravity of the situation.
Waltair Divisional Railway Manager Saurabh Prasad, together with other East Coast Railway officials, also rushed their way to the accident site, bringing with them Accident Relief Trains and rescue equipment. However, the unaffected coaches of both trains were relocated to nearby stations, with eleven coaches finding refuge at Alamandala Station and nine at Kantakapalli Station.
Later on, the monumental task of removing the derailed coaches loomed ahead, necessitating the deployment of substantial cranes from Visakhapatnam to dismantle and untangle the metal and restore the disrupted rail lines.
