DR1 original Borgen is a Danish political drama that tells the tale of how, against all the odds, Birgitte Nyborg Christensen becomes the first female prime minister of Denmark. The show made its debut on September 26th, 2010, and is currently airing its fourth season. Borgen is produced by DR, the Danish public broadcaster, and is co-written & developed by Adam Price, Jeppe Gjervig Gram, and Tobias Lindholm.

The show’s protagonist, Birgitte Nyborg, is said to be inspired by Denmark’s first female prime minister, Helle Thorning-Schmidt, even though Thorning-Schmidt was not elected until after the second series of Borgen had been made.

The series has been well appreciated by critics and audiences alike. It became a hit in the UK and Denmark, becoming one of several Danish series to do so in recent years.

The show was expected to conclude its third season on March 10th, 2013, but Netflix and DR decided to bring it back for another run. The fourth season of the hit political thriller was first announced in April 2020. The first three seasons were made public on the streaming outlet worldwide in September 2020.

According to the reports, the fourth installment will hit the streaming platform sometime in 2022. As per the Times Radio host, the estimated date will probably fall in Spring 2022.

The upcoming season will be divided into two waves. The show was previously available in multiple countries, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal, and Australia.

The first wave will be available for binge-watching on Netflix in Nordic countries, including Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, and Iceland, on April 14th, 2022. And the rest of the world will receive the latest episodes on June 2nd, 2022.

The fourth season’s star cast include Sidse Babett Knudsen, Søren Malling, Birgitte Hjort Sørensen and Pilou Asbæk.
