Aftersun, Charlotte Wells’ feature film debut, is the next drama you should add to your watch list. The film received a jury prize after its debut during the International Critics’ Week at the Cannes Film Festival this year.
In the coming-of-age drama Aftersun, which stars Paul Mescal and Frankie Corio, a woman remembers her father and her last trip to the Turkish coast as she tries to make peace with the man she knew and the man she didn’t, who is struggling under the burden of his life.
Charlotte Wells wrote and directed the drama. The film moves slowly as it examines the bond between the young father, who is depressed and his adoring 11-year-old daughter. Paul Mescal and Frankie Corio play Calum and Sophie, respectively, in the movie Aftersun. Mescal obtained an Academy Award nomination for his portrayal, and Corio has also been praised for her outstanding work.
Before the 2023 Academy Awards, Aftersun won a few prestigious commendations. Wells won the Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director, or Producer award at the BAFTAs and Best First Feature at the Film Independent Spirit Awards.
When Will Aftersun Be On Streaming?
It’s difficult to predict when Aftersun will be available digitally because no release date has been set. However, we can estimate that it will come out roughly 45 days after its theatrical debut, which would fall around early December, based on other A24 movies.
Will Aftersun Be On Hbo Max?
Since Aftersun is not a Warner Bros. production, HBO Max will not air it. The studio released its films on the streaming service the same day as their theatrical debuts the year before. They stopped doing that and started allowing a 45-day window between the theatrical and streaming releases, just like many others.
Will Aftersun Be On Netflix?
No, Aftersun won’t be available on Netflix just yet. However, given that the streaming giant is the home to other A24 films like Uncut Gems, it may eventually make it there. You’ll just have to wait until it’s available for purchase or see it in a theatre until then.
