The Netflix original series Shadow and Bone is directed by Eric Heisserer and is based on Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse novels, which have sold millions of copies worldwide. It takes place in a war-torn world and follows orphan Alina Starkov as she discovers the extraordinary power she truly possesses. Ben Barnes plays General Kirigan, and he intervenes to shield her from the Shadow Fold’s imminent threat, but it is clear that he also has his agenda. The criminal street gang that makes up the Crows, Freddy Carter, Kit Young, and Amita Suman, discussed their audition process, how exciting it is to have the books as a resource, their work at “Crow camp,” their favourite moments, bringing queer representation to a fantasy world, and what they thought of the season’s final episode.

Shadow and Bone season 2 will explore Kaz’s backstory!

Freddy Carter gave fans new information in a recent interview, confirming that season 2 will feature Kaz’s backstory. He stated, “A lot of the stuff we get to play out is from the books; it comes from the source material.” I was playing everything because I had all that information before season one. When I read season 2, I had no idea that was the backstory.

This could account for the brief Netflix clip of Kaz, Inej, and Jesper teaming up with Nina Zenik and Wylan Hendriks, a new character played by Jack Wolfe; After deciding not to kidnap Alina in Season 1, Kaz is working on a larger plan of retribution. At the same time, he is endeavouring to make amends for the slight mess they have created.

Book readers will be able to make some approximate guesses about the character Freddy Carter is referring to, particularly in light of the events of season one; however, until Shadow and Bone season 2 arrive on Netflix on March 16.
