The iconic, incomparable entertainer Cher is belting her voice to tribute to the late actress Betty White, America’s Golden Girls star.
The 75-year-old entertainer is set to perform a new version of “Thank You For Being A Friend” the loved theme song of White’s Sitcom The Golden Girls, to pay tribute to late comedian-actress in an upcoming NBC’s special event Celebrating Betty White: America’s Golden Girls.
The singer shared a snippet of the performance (taped on the original stage of the sitcom) through her social media including TikTok and Twitter. She wrote in the caption, “Every Friend is Golden.”
NBC is presenting the hour-long prime-time special about White’s life and legacy. The star-studded event will include tributes from President Joe Biden, Drew Barrymore, Bryan Cranston, Valerie Bertinelli, Ted Danson, Jimmy Fallon, Tina Fey, Ellen DeGeneres, Ana Gasteyer, Vicki Lawrence, Goldie Hawn, Wendie Malick, Jane Leeves, Tracy Morgan, Mary Steenburgen, and more.
The NBC’s special will air on Monday, January 31 at 10 p.m. ET/PT and will be available for streaming on Peacock.
The network said in a statement, “Co-stars, friends, admirers, and those who share special moments with White recount their favorite memories and reveal untold stories to commemorate the life and legacy of the trailblazing television star. The telecast will include clips and never-before-seen footage that best capture White’s irreverent tone, spirit, and impeccable comedic timing that are a hallmark of her decades-long career.”
White’s agent and friend Jeff Witjas has spoken about how the comedian was going to mark her centennial year. She said, “Even though Betty was about to be 100, I thought she would live forever, I will miss her terribly and so will the animal world that she loved so much. I don’t think Betty ever feared passing because she always wanted to be with her most beloved husband Allen Ludden. She believed she would be with him again.”
