2019 released American Teen Drama series, Daybreak, was not that of a hit, but still, it could get a season. Unfortunately, the series was canceled after one season.
Brad Peyton and Aron Eli Coleite co-created the series based on the novel of the same name by Brian Ralph.
The plot of the series follows the story of Canadian Teen outcast Josh Wheeler, who searches for her missing British girlfriend, Sam Dean, in post-apocalyptic Glendale, California. On his way, he was joined by a ragtag group of people, which includes a 10-year-old pyromaniac Angelica and Wesley Josh’s high school bully, who is, fortunately, a pacifist now.
Josh tries to survive among the hordes of Mad Max-style gangs (evil jocks, cheerleaders turned Amazonian warriors, etc.), adults who have turned into zombie-like creatures called Ghoulies, and the mysterious Baron Triumph.
The series premiered on Netflix on October 24, 2019. It features Colin Ford as Josh Wheeler, the leading character of the series, Alyvia Alyn Lind as Angelica, Sophie Simnett played Sam Dean, Austin Crute as Wesley, Cody Kearsley, and Jeanté Godlock, Gregory Kasyan, Krysta Rodriguez, and Matthew Broderick.
The series received mixed reviews from critics and held 70% ratings on rotten tomatoes. It has 7.3 ratings out of 10 on IMDb.
In December 2019, the streamer officially canceled the show after season 1. The main reason for the cancellation could be its viewership which is certainly not much compared to other series.
In 2019, the show’s co-creator Aron Coleite also tweeted regarding the show’s cancellation. He wrote, “No one is as heartbroken as we are that we can’t share more of this ride with you. But we’re so grateful to have gotten to bring it this far.”
