The latest development in West Bengal has eye-gobbled the nation and when, the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) announced the arrest of Jyotipriya Mallick, the West Bengal Forest Minister, and former State Food and Supplies Minister, in connection with a multi-crore ration distribution case. Yes, you have read it right, Mallick has been taken into custody by the officials. According to the reports, Mallick has been arrested after an extensive 20-hour raid and search operation at his house in Salt Lake, Kolkata. The raid commenced early Thursday and culminated in his apprehension at around 4 am on Friday.

According to further reports, Mallick is currently being transported to the ED’s central government office (CGO) complex in Salt Lake. Reports further commence and state that while going on his way to the ED office on Friday morning, Mallick stated that he had fallen victim to a fully planned and crafted conspiracy by the Bhartiya Janta Party.

Well, Jyotipriya Mallick became the second member of the West Bengal cabinet to be arrested by the agency led by the central government. Mallick has been arrested after the arrest of the former State Education Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) legislator Partha Chatterjee. Apart from this Mallick has also become the fourth TMC legislator, joining Chatterjee, Manik Bhattacharya, and Jiban Krishna Saha, to be taken into custody by the central agency’s officials. Well, it is crucial to note that the other three were arrested due to their alleged involvement in the cash-for-school job case in West Bengal.

Reports have also stated that Mallick’s arrest is connected to the central agency’s investigation into the ration distribution case that transpired during his previous tenure as the State Food and Supplies Minister year 2011 to 2021.

Although ED has arrested Chatterjee, Bhattacharya, and Mallick, Saha was attested by their counterparts in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Mallick got connected to the ration distribution case during the ED’s investigation of various documents seized from the residence and office of Kolkata-based businessman Bakibur Rahman, who was recently arrested by the agency in the same task.
