Now, Google Docs is getting emoji reactions, allowing you to respond in emojis. Google says the feature supports all the emojis available in the latest release, which includes sillier symbols like melting face and biting lip and gender-neutral options.

Google released a gif that shows how the emoji reaction feature will appear as a third option alongside “Suggest Edits” and “Add Comment” when you highlight text. You can also type to search the emoji catalog, and Google says these responses provide “a less formal alternative to comments.”

Emoji reactions have become a staple of modern software and are available in numerous messaging apps and social networks. Emoji reactions are coming to Google Docs.

A new Google Docs feature was recently announced to include a new pageless layout, markdown support, and the ability to draft emails from a document seamlessly.

The company says emoji reactions will be on by default and cannot be disabled. They’re rolling out now for rapid-release domains but will come to most Google Docs users after April 20th. They’ll be available for “Business Standard, Google Workspace Essentials, Business Starter, Business Plus, Enterprise Plus, and Enterprise Standard” subscribers, but not more basic tiers like Enterprise Essentials.

Stay tuned for further updates.
