There will be a prequel to Stranger Things, but it won’t be available on Netflix; rather, it will be staged. Stranger Things: The First Shadow, a new stage show from Netflix, will debut at the Phoenix Theatre in London’s West End in the latter half of 2023. 

The Duffer Brothers, Kate Trefry and Jack Thorne, with Kate writing the original narrative on which the prequel is based. Justin Martin serves as a co-director alongside Stephen Daldry. Netflix along with Sonia Friedman Productions, will produce, with The Duffer Brothers acting as the creative producers.
