Fantastic Beasts 3: The Secrets of Dumbledore is the third installment in the Fantastic Beasts film universe and the eleventh in the Wizarding World franchise. The plot is set several years after the affairs of its predecessor. It shines a light on Albus Dumbledore, tasking Newt Scamander and his supporters with an assignment that takes them into the core of dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald’s army.
The film made its debut on 29 March 2022 in London, 8 April 2022 in the United Kingdom, and is scheduled to hit the big screens on 15 April 2022 in the United States. It is based on a screenplay penned by J. K. Rowling. The fantasy film is directed under the supervision of David Yates and scripted by J. K. Rowling and Steve Kloves.
Despite a somewhat disappointing opening, the film became the biggest-grossing film on their VOD platform last weekend. As per recent countings, the film passed $400 million at the global box office and became a graceful exit point for a franchise that would never reach the promised land.
Even with this success, the third installment is down 39% from the $659 million global gross of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, which was 19% down from Fantastic Beast’s first installment.
With this crossing point, the film becomes the fourth film by Warner Bros. that has passed $400 million worldwide, falling behind Dune ($400 million), Fantastic Beasts 3 ($400 million), and The Batman ($770 million) cross that milestone.
Eleven projects that crossed $400 million include Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Spider-Man: No Way Home and Uncharted from Sony, F9, No Time to Die and Sing two from Universal, Top Gun: Maverick and Sonic 2 from Paramount and Shang-Chi, Eternals and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness from Disney.
