‘First Kill’ Season 2: Netflix Renewal Status Update and What to Expect From the New Season

Netflix’s recently released projects include another book adaptation based on Schwab’s short story first published in Imprint’s Vampires Never Get Old: Tales with Fresh Bite. The series is titled First Kill, a fantasy teen drama written and created by V.E. Schwab. The executive producers include Felicia D. Henderson, formerly known for working on series such as Empire, Gossip Girl, The Punisher, Emma Roberts, and Karah Preiss.

The show made its debut on Netflix on June 10, 2022, with eight episodes and received an average rating of 5.8/10 on Rotten Tomatoes. The website’s critics’ consensus reads, “This sapphic soap about vampiric love is earnest enough to put a stake through the hearts of the genre faithful, but its clumsy execution leaves an aftertaste that’s more garlicky than sweet.”

The plot’s synopsis reads, “Juliett ready for her first kill and establishing herself as a member of an influential vampire family. She finds a perfect victim, Calliope, who moves into her town at just the right time to give Juliett a chance to impress her elders. But Calliope is not a damsel in distress. She happens to be a vampire hunter from a line of celebrated slayers, and can surely handle herself. As their paths cross, they realise they would much rather make out than try to kill each other. However, their families are hungry for blood.”

On analyzing the audience’s response to the show, we gather that the plot and performances have attained mixed reviews. Hence, there appears to be a 50-50 chance for the storyline to gain another season. As of yet, Netflix hasn’t indicated the show’s future.

In the beginning, the show picked up 30.34 million hours, placing it at number 7. The following week, we saw a 61% increase in viewership as the show scored 48.77 million hours. This indicates an upward trend, and the future will depend on the show’s further performance. For more updates, stay tuned.
