According to a recent rumour, the sequel will start shooting around the middle of 2023 or in the late spring, about 20 years after Mel Gibson’s Passion of the Christ shattered nearly all box office records. Jim Caviezel, who originally played Jesus Christ, will also make a comeback. He excelled in the first movie.
The first movie was such an enormous success that it showed a worldwide market for faith-based entertainment among Christians. Mel Gibson’s upcoming movie is reportedly titled “Passion of the Christ: Resurrection.”The cast will star Jim Caviezel, who will reprise the role of Jesus, Maia Morgenstern as Mary, Christo Jivkov as John, and Francesco De Vito as Peter.
On February 14, 2024, the first day of Lent, if Gibson begins shooting in the middle of the year, he might have the finished product. Lent officially began on February 25, 2004. The Passion of the Christ was released by Gibson in 3,006 theatres on the same day, earning a staggering $26.5 million. By Monday, $125 million had been acquired.
Before its domestic run was over, Gibson’s independently produced masterpiece had taken in $370 million domestically and another $241 million internationally, the movie’s $30 million production budget. Hollywood was already that out of touch twenty years ago, and things have gotten worse ever since. Most previous theatrical depictions of the crucifixion are almost unbelievably beautiful, in contrast to what we saw in the last season. Jesus had endured a lot of abuse. Although Jesus was unquestionably more damaged in actual life than he was in The Emphasis, no Christian had seen Christ’s suffering depicted with such accuracy before.
While Mel Gibson does a commendable job of remaining faithful to the Gospels, he still feels free to invent a believable backstory to advance the story. Watching the new sequel will bring more thrill to the series.
