‘Kantara,’ Rishab Shetty’s film was opened with mixed reviews from the critics and saw its biz grow leaps and bounds due to glowing word of mouth. Recently it emerged as the 2nd highest-grosser Kannada movie.
This year was a rollercoaster year. We have seen things turn topsyturvy at the box office in India. Many anticipated biggies like Laal Singh Chaddha, Shamshera, Dhaakad and Prithviraj Chauhan were bombed. In contrast, small films like 777 Charlie, The Kashmir Files, Sita Ramam, and many others and now Kantara churned out huge from all quarters and reaped enormous profits for the buyers.
Moreover, This year we also saw south Indian films dominating the box office, magnum opus RRR and monster KGF2 became one of the highest-earning Indian films of all time.

Recently Kantara has crossed the 200 crore mark domestically, out of which the Kannada version stands at ₹ 136.3 crores, Telugu ₹ 26.67 crores, Hindi ₹ 34.2 crores, Malayalam ₹ 4.2 crore and Tamil ₹ 4 crores. As per the early trade estimations, Kantara collects 9.5-10.5 crore on its 5th Saturday, which is over 70% growth.
The next target of Kantara will be to cross the 275 crore mark domestically, which it is expected to cross on the weekend, and then it will head for 300 crore worldwide.
