Rishab Shetty’s Kantara has been doing sensational business in the Hindi markets, and Kantara is showing no signs of stopping. The movie is doing far better than mainstream Bollywood star heroes’ new releases like Ajay Devgn’s Thank God and Akshay Kumar’s Ram Setu.
Kantara is set in the fictional village of Dakshina Kannada. The story follows a Kambala champion, played by Rishab, who comes to loggerheads with an upright Forest Range officer, Murali.
Considering the release conditions of Pushpa: The Rise and Kantar, it is safe to say that Kantara is the bigger hit. At the time of Pushpa’s release, there was no competition in the Hindi markets. All the planned releases of Hindi movies were postponed due to COVID-19, and Pushpa benefited from being the only release in theatres. As a result, Pushpa finally crossed 100 crores in nett collections.
On the other hand, Kantara is a very small film, and there were no promotions for the movie in the Hindi industry. There were no original plans to release Kantara in Hindi, and it was dubbed and released in Hindi due to popular demand. Kantar has collected 43 crores in nett collections so far. And it is on track to collect 75+ crores in its full run or even 100 crores. Considering the situation, Kantara is a bigger success than Pushpa in the Hindi belts.
