The fashion mogul has been in the headlines ever since appearing on KUWTK. Jenner’s 818 Tequila has been named the number one new spirit brand in 2021.
In just seven months since launch, the tequila brand has shipped over 1.5 million bottles and still counting.
Kendall is not new to entering the alcohol market with tequila, there are many celebrities including Nick Jonas with Villa One, George Clooney, Rande Gerber with Casamigos, and more.
818 Tequila is a hand-crafted tequila brand, according to the press, their motto is to uplift the women and men who make it. The brand won 16 blind tasting awards across major industry competitions.
Kenny’s tequila is produced using traditional methods in Jalisco, Mexico in a family-owned and operated distillery. Its production is sustainable using Weber Blue agaves and it comes in three variations; Blanco, Reposado, and Añejo.
During an interview, the 26-year-old told Forbes “I was intrigued by tequila because my parents really love it. It was celebratory in our household. When I got older, I started exploring the space… And I was always trying wide varieties of tequila.” She continued “Coming from such a female-dominated family, all of my sisters have their businesses. I’ve been really inspired by that my entire life, I was always watching my sisters do their thing and have their partnerships and businesses…so it’s always been very highly female-driven, and entrepreneurial, in my family. That’s been really inspiring for me.”
The model has met with quite the backlash following the claims of cultural appropriation. She discussed the whole narrative on The Tonight Show hosted by Jimmy Fallon stating that she was actually helping the people in the area of the distillery where 818 is manufactured. Jenner said, “At our distillery, which I was just at the other day, we found a way to take the agave waste, the agave fibers, and the water waste used to build this sustainable brick that we are actually donating back to the community of Jalisco. Along with saving the planet, it’s important for us to be friendly to the community as well. We’re donating them and building homes for people that need homes.”
The brand is branching up and has been collaborating with non-profit campaigns to help people of concern. They have marked their success with remarkable sales in such a short period. Hopefully, now Kendall feels she has excelled in business as every member of her family.
