NASA says it is considering studying sex in space. With humans getting closer to long-haul space missions on Mars and the moon.
Zero gravity sex will be crucial for astronauts, spending years away from Earth.
This was in response to a study proposal by a team of five Canadian academics, who called on space organizations to embrace the new discipline of ‘space sexology.’
‘Understanding sex and how it will work in a low gravity environment, is essential to the success of deep space missions, and building off-world settlements,’ said the academics from Concordia University in Montreal.
While people go to space for a long duration, it could be space tourists, including couples.
NASA has a history of being prissy about the sex between astronauts,” No humans have ever had sex in space. “
“We are primarily concerned with ensuring crew members’ health and safety in space for long periods,’ a Nasa spokesperson told us.
‘Our Human Research Program is working to mitigate the five hazards of human spaceflight and researching ways to help crews work together and remain emotionally prepared during their journey,’ they said.
Currently, the five hazards of human spaceflight are radiation, isolation and confinement, distance from Earth, lack of gravity, and hostile environments.
‘Should a future need for more in-depth study on reproductive health in space be identified, Nasa would take the appropriate steps,’ they said.
The US space agency confirmed that there were currently no plans for a field or project office to explore the topic in any detail, but that could change as we get closer to putting humans on Mars.
