Created by Ben Harris, the crime drama series Young Wallander premiered on Netflix on September 3, 2020.
Based on the novel by Henning Mankell, the series received mixed responses from the audiences as the series was set in a modern world, unlike the novel. The series received criticism for the choice of placing it in the modern world.
Young Wallander features Swedish actor Adam Pålsson as the leading character of the series. Adam himself explained that setting the essence in today’s world made more sense than a straight prequel. It allowed for social commentary, a vital element of Mankell’s original Wallander.
The series also stars Richard Dillane as Superintendent Josef Hemberg, Leanne Best as Frida RaskElisee Chappell as Mona, Yasen Atour as Reza Al-Rahman, Charles Mnene as Bashir “Bash,” Jacob Collins-Levy as Karl-Axel Munck, Alan Emrys as Gustav Munck, and Kiza Deen as Mariam, the other main character of the series.
Joanna Preston joined the cast for the second season of the series and played the role of a Female Anchor.
In November 2020, the series was renewed for a second season which premiered on Netflix on February 17, 2022.

Young Wallander is a young, edgy, and modern series that sees Henning Mankell’s iconic detective Kurt Wallander investigate his gripping first case. The story focuses on the formative experiences – professional and personal – faced by Kurt as a recently graduated police officer in his early twenties.
The series currently holds 64% ratings on rotten tomatoes, which is certainly not enough to get the series a third season. But since Netflix hasn’t officially canceled the show, the fans are looking forward to a season 3.
