Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty, professionally known as ‘Nicki Minaj’ is a well-known rapper, singer, and songwriter. The beautiful singer rose to fame in 2010 with her debut album Pink Friday which ended up topping the US Billboard 200. Her fifth single, ‘Super Bass’ also gave her recognition all over the world as the song became the highest-charting solo song by a female rapper since 2002. It also became the second female rap solo song to become diamond certified.
Recently the Queen singer was spotted in a conversation with James Corden during her appearance on The Late Night Show With James Corden.
At the beginning of the episode, the 39-year-old singer made her presence known by commandeering Corden’s seat. She then innocently begged him to let her host the segment. Her words read, ‘Oh, hey James. What are you doing here so early?’ where she further added, ‘Can I please give America the news tonight?’
The duo discussed her feeling of being with her 16-month-old son and her husband Kenneth Petty.
Nicki came on the show to promote her new single Do We Have A Problem? with Lil Baby and admitted she still gets nervous ‘every single time’ when she releases music.
While discussing the 2016’s incident where Adele did a Carpool Karaoke on Nicki’s song and brought up the rumor that airs the fact that Adele had memorized the lyrics to Minaj’s song Monster.
In response to this memory, Minaj disclosed that the ‘Hello’ singer “made my day, my dear”. She also said that she “probably got a thousand phone calls” about it.
In retaliation, Corden challenged the rapper to either impersonate or sing one of her songs while questioning, “What does Nicki Minaj’s impression of Adele sound like?”
And since Nicki is known to take every challenge seriously, the singer didn’t disappoint her fans this time either. She took a deep breath, fixed her hair, and got ready to deliver her impression of Adele. She warned the audience and began with, “Alright, in order for me to channel Adele, I sort of have to think Black lady in London right? Because the thing is, normally everybody knows, my British accent is sort of like a posh white lady, a rich white lady.”
The impression turned out to be fantastic. Nicki’s response of doing a hilarious impression of Adele was bang on! Continuing in her amazingly entertaining British version, she further added, “But with Adele, I sort of have to transform. As you know, she might have used to sell crack and maybe she used to be hustling nickels and dimes in the hood and then got her big break. That’s what I see when I see her, she is always so expressive.”
Her impression of the British singer was highly appreciated by the audiences and soon everyone was cheering her. She did a marvelous job and probably made herself quite proud.
