The idea of simply calling in and talking about an item you’re looking for, or you’re trying to see and trying your best to strike the best possible deal between your listener. It made Netflix’s bizarre reality series, Swap Shop, top-rated among the viewers.
The series is about the bargaining qualities of nine different pairs of bargain hunters who do their best to expand their collection or try to sell their products while making maximum profit. We get to see the procedure of them visiting the seller and purchasing what they think will see the Hughes in their markets.
The show is a hybrid of ‘Pawn Stars,’ ‘Storage Wars,’ and ‘American Pickers.’ Sometimes we get to see these hunters buying something for the sake of simply restoring it as a prize or trophy.
The series made its appearance on the streaming platform Netflix on November 9, 2021, and ran for six episodes with a runtime of roughly 26-31 minutes each. The second episode made its appearance on February 16, 2022, with a similar number of episodes and runtime. The approximate 26-31 minutes is enough to give us an inside peek into people’s various domains and hobbies.
From the beginning, Netflix has announced the first two seasons irrespective of their viewership. Since the show has been able to maintain a steady amount of viewers in the past season, we may get to enjoy another season filled with particular kinds of objects.
No official statement has been released regarding the continuation or cancellation of the show. It generally takes a month to reveal the fate of the shows. Since Swap Shop has provided sufficient audiences and has excellent potential, the chances of getting another round with these hunters are significantly higher.
If the show gets another season, we can expect to see the same eight purchasers searching for unusual things. Last season, we were introduced to nine unique pairs of Victoria “Tori” Clooney and Larry of West Main Antiques, Dale Kyker and Scott Jones of Kyker’s Extreme Automotive, and JD and Bobby JD’s Realty & Auction and The BobMart. Along with these, we can also hope to see pairs like Jen and Doug of Pickers Paradise, brothers Sammie and Mark Isaac of Sammie’s Auction House, and loving couple JP Mathes and Fiddling Leona included in season 3.
The previous episodes have been based on the tagline, “one man’s garbage is another man’s treasure,” the upcoming undecided season will be on the same path. For further updates, stay tuned.
