Sweet Magnolias is an American romantic drama streaming television series, created by Sheryl J. Anderson and based on the Sweet Magnolias novels by Sherryl Woods.
It features JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Brooke Elliott, Heather Headley, and Jamie Lynn Spears. The series premiered on Netflix on May 19, 2020, In July 2020, the series was restored for a second season. The 10-episode second season premiered on February 4, 2022.
Considering what our favorite trio went through in Season 1, we knew there’d be lots of ups and downs for Maddie, Helen, and Dana Sue in the second season of Sweet Magnolias, and everything ended on very surprising notes.
Maddie spent the majority of the episodes trying to help Kyle recover from the accident, and get through to him about what led to him jumping behind the wheel of Ty’s car. They did finally have a breakthrough, but Maddie’s relationship status with her new-ish beau, Cal, took several turns. Maddie finally confessed that she loves Cal but was then faced with new revelations about his anger supervision problem.
Meanwhile, Dana Sue managed to do a lot of work with Ronnie so that they could reunite. She already misses the adorable farmer Jeremy! , and she saw her money troubles at Sullivan’s relief. First by Cal when he purchased Micah out as her silent partner, and then when Miss Frances left her a buttload of cash in her will. But! Now someone who’s very mad at Dana Sue has refused to give her hell!
Helen Lordy, lord! Poor Helen went through a lot in Season 2. Not only did she lose her and Ryan’s baby immediately after prom night, but she decided to withstand IVF treatments just as she and chef Erik were getting closer. Like, very closely. To top it all off, that damn Ryan showed back up! Speaking of.
A lot of Sweet Magnolias fans perhaps had nothing but pure hate for Ryan after he got back with Helen in Season 1, only to disclose he still didn’t want kids right when she was once again looking forward to a future with him. I, however, tried to see how both of them were stupid in attempting to date after roughly two decades of an on / off romance.
They were just glad Helen finally set her heart on the town’s most suitable love interest, Erik, after her prom night heartbreak. But then Ryan’s aunt, Miss Frances, died, and he returned to the Serve entity and had the absolute courage to tell Helen that he now wants kids. Then, that tempted to propose to her, leaving Helen shocked to her very core in the final seconds of the Season 2 ending.
