Directed under Kasper Barfoed and Mikkel Serup, The Chestnut Man is Netflix’s Danish crime series that debuted on 29 September 2021. The story is based on the books written by Søren Sveistrup, having a similar title. The show successfully gained fans’ viewership, received favorable views from critics, and holds a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The show follows the lead characters, Naia Thulin, an investigator with the Copenhagen police, and Mark Hess, a criminal investigator from Europol who temporarily returns to Copenhagen and investigates the murders of several women that involve a mysterious chestnut figurine left at the crime scenes.

The show’s first season opens with mysterious circumstances that lead to the discovery of the murder in 1987 of an entire family on an isolated farm. This unfortunate event comes into the limelight once again when a young woman is murdered in a playground with one of her hands cut thirty years later, i.e., the present time.

The show can be easily described as a dark, remarkable, and often spine-chilling Nordic noir massacre paradox thriller as it sinks into the investigation of a serial killer. The reason behind his name is quite simple, and the Chestnut Man likes to leave little chestnut figurines at the crime scenes, which is the only indication of being behind the crimes.

The first season ended with no specific questions that made many fans think that it would be the end. But the second season’s arrival came with the statement that there are still some mysteries to be solved and questions left unanswered.

There hasn’t been any official update regarding the new additional season, and it seems as if the chances are meager. Even if we estimate season two, it will take a year maximum, so the new season would likely be premiered sometime in late 2022, or perhaps even early 2023.

viewers might get a chance to see some new characters in the coming season as the previous crime has been solved in the six episodes of season one. Along with some newcomers, we expect to see some of the old faces returning to their beloved characters, including the leading investigators of the Chestnut Man case.

The only thing we can do is anticipate its arrival and wait for any official indication by Netflix. Fans are hoping to see another villain like Simon Genz as he was a fantastic negative character that maintained the viewers’ interest.
