The British historical fiction series, The last kingdom, just ended with its fifth and final season, but fans wanted to see some more stories of the series.

Fortunately, there’s good news for us; even though the series has ended, there’s still some story left to tell, and with a sequel film of The last kingdom titled “Seven kings must die,” the story will be continued.

Stephen Butchard developed the series based on Bernard Cornwell’s The Saxon Stories series of novels. The last kingdom premiered on October 10, 2015, on the BBC.

The series received good responses from the audiences as well as critics.

The series has a long list of cast members; the core cast of the series includes Alexander Dreymon, David Dawson, Peri Baumeister, Ian Hart, Charlie Murphy, Brian Vernel, Joseph Millson, and Thomas W. Gabrielsson, Harry McEntire, Simon Kunz, David Dawson. Adrian Bower, Tobias Santelmann, and many more.

Season one and two both consisted of eight episodes aired on BBC two, airing from October 10 to November 28, 2015, and March 16 to May 4, 2017, respectively.

The rest of the three seasons were released on Netflix, which consisted of ten episodes each. Season 3 was released on November 29, 2018, season 4 on April 26, 2020, and the fifth and final season on March 9, 2022.

Previously, during an interview with Radio Times, executive producer Nigel Marchant mentioned, “Season 5 does feel like the end of the TV series, and the movie will be much more standalone. It’ll be an extra treat for the fans of the TV series, but you could also watch it even if you’ve never seen the TV show.”

Gladly, this is not the end of the story; filming for the upcoming film, Seven Kings Must Die, wrapped in March 2022 and only took two months to shoot. Fans can expect the movie to hit Netflix anywhere between late 2022 to 2023.
