Talking of the highly anticipated releases of the year, The Northman sure does appear near the top. After two smashing hits, The Witch and The Lighthouse, the director Robert Eggers is back with an action thriller epic based on the legend of Amleth.

The Northman is set in Iceland with a seek of revenge, it explores how far a Viking prince will go to seek justice for his murdered father. It is Co-written by Robert Eggers and Icelandic Poet and novelist Sjón.

In an interview, the movie director described it as his most mainstream movie yet. Egger has moved from A24 to Focus Feature. In the US, the film will be distributed by Focus Feature. For other countries, Universal Picture will play as a distributor.

The film’s synopsis reads, “The Viking diaspora takes place in the 14th century Iceland. It is told from the perspective of young Amleth, who witness his father being brutally murdered by his uncle. The Viking prince escapes his homeland and vows to seek revenge and justice for his deceased father.”

The movie will premiere on April 22, 2022. It is a long watch with a runtime of 2 hours and 20 minutes, so don’t forget to grab the giant tub of popcorn.
