Lord of the Rings is a movie that is loved and adored by its fans for years. Since the arrival of the books, it has bound its audiences making us all fall in love with not only the story but also the characters.
Fans all over the world are excited for their favorite story to finally be turned into several episodes. The first indication of this amazing project was made public knowledge when Amazon bought the television rights for The Lord of the Rings in November 2017 and made the commitment of airing its five seasons which will cost at least US$1 billion making the series the most expensive television series ever made.
The first eight episodes of season 1 are scheduled to be released on Prime Video on September 2, 2022. Amazon has been promoting this most anticipated series on its social media handles, teasing the fans with numerous maps of the Middle East during the Second Age as well as extracts from the original novel.
This eagerly anticipated drama series has finally revealed its much-awaited title. The multi-season franchise is titled, “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power”. Amazon has dropped several new plot details along with its title.
The showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay have commented on the decision of this title saying, “This is a title that we imagine could live on the spine of a book next to J.R.R. Tolkien’s other classics. The Rings of Power unites all the major stories of Middle-earth’s Second Age: the forging of the rings, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the epic tale of Numenor, and the Last Alliance of Elves and Men, Until now, audiences have only seen on-screen the story of the One Ring – but before there was one, there were many… and we’re excited to share the epic story of them all”
The series will be quite different from the movies as they will follow a storyline set several years before Peter Jackson’s films. The official released a description of this mega budgeted series reads, ‘Lord of the Rings brings to screens for the very first time the heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history. This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness.’
The production of the series took place in New Zealand and then was moved to the UK. The first season will premiere in 240 territories around the world.
Amazon has released its first look which only hyped its arrival. The image showed a lone figure dressed in a white cloak standing on a grassy hillside. It was a beautiful scene and we can’t wait for the actual arrival of the seasons. Till then you can control the urge by brushing up on the facts of the original franchise.
