True Spirit, a Netflix original film based on Watson’s book of the same name, which she wrote to describe her experience. Jessica, a 16-year-old from Sydney, Australia, entered the ocean on October 18, 2009, to become the first person to accomplish a solo world circumnavigation without help. She returned on May 15, 2010, a few days before turning 17.
Teagan Croft, a young Australian actress, plays Jessica Watson. Anna Paquin and Josh Lawson portray Jessica’s encouraging parents, while Cliff Curtis portrays Jessica’s sailing instructor and mentor. The remaining cast members are Todd Lasance, Bridget Webb, Vivien Turner, and Stacy Clausen.
Cathy Randall, Rebecca Banner, and Sarah Spillane co-wrote the screenplay for the Australian Netflix original film True Spirit. The movie’s producers included Andrew Fraser, Susan Cartsonis, and Debra Martin Chase. It is based on the story of Jessica Watson, an Australian sailor who steps out to become the youngest girl to sail solo, non-stop, and unaided around the globe, she must face and overcome her biggest fear as she travels through the world’s most dangerous ocean routes.
Jessica received a Medal of the Order of Australia. She was nominated into the Australian Sailing Hall of Fame even though her final distance fell short of the 21,600 nautical miles she needed to beat the record.
